Canadian Embroiderers' Guild, London 40th Anniversary: Gathering Threads

May 12th to 15th, 2011
University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario

In celebration of the upcoming fortieth anniversary of the Canadian Embroiderers’ Guild, London, an exciting fibre focused three day conference is being planned. Mark on your calendars the dates Thursday, May 12th to Sunday, May 15th because those are the days that you will want to be in London, Ontario immersing yourself in all things fibre.

Our goal is to showcase the fibre arts community in the London area by inviting other vibrant but less visible groups to bring their different techniques of working with fibre to a more publicly accessible forum. We want the larger community to know that fibre is a wonderful medium with which to create. Other fibre affiliates include Simply Hooked Rughookers, the London Lacers, the Canadian Book Artists and Bookbinders’ Guild of Southwestern Ontario, the Fringe Element Tatters, Forest City Knitters and the Forest City Smockers Guild.

An Update on Gathering Threads . . .

Time has run out to register for the workshops and for the Wearable Art Fashion Show.

We thank all of you who will be joining us for the workshops and the Fashion Show and Dinner. We really look forward to meeting you and know that you will have a great time with us. For those of you who weren't able to be part of those activities, there are still a number of events that you will be sure to enjoy. They include . . .

  • shopping at the Vendors at Perth Hall, May 12th to 14th, 2011
  • taking in the great work of the London Fibre Groups' displays at Perth Hall, May 13th and 14th, 2011
  • "Fabric of Art" Invitational fibre art show at the Art Exchange, Wortley Village, May 9th to June 5th, 2011
  • Annual CEG London Members' Exhibition at the London Central Library, May 4th to 28th, 2011

We have garnered a lot of media attention in the London community, a London Free Press article about our partnership with Sterling Marking Products, an In Touch spot with A Channel, a feature in the Beat (Arts in London), and a radio interview on Western Radio with Ben Benedict's Inside the Arts. We wish to sincerely express our gratitude to these organizations for their support of this community arts endeavour. The exposure given to Gathering Threads by all of them is invaluable to the success of our events.

Our invitational fibre art show, The Fabric of Art, is shaping up to be a really great show. Al Stewart at the Art Exchange is very excited about the impressive quality and the breadth of the work that will make up the show. Art pieces from both workshop teachers and from local fibre artists make up this not to be missed exhibition!. Opening night is May 13, 7 to 9 pm. Come and see us!

The participating London fibre groups are eager to share their respective fibre techniques with all who are interested on Friday and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. Come and visit with them and they will be happy to show you how they do it - and where you can go creatively once you know how!

Please visit the Vendors from Thursday to Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm. There is a great variety of fibre related merchandise, hard to find specialty items that will be just the thing to enhance your latest (or oldest) project.

We hope to see you and your friends at all or some of the great events that are part of Gathering Threads.
